Ivan Karaulov is a Toronto-based cinematographer and gaffer, born in Volgograd, Russia. He started at 13 with BMX videos and in his early 20s was shooting music videos for artists like Pharaoh and Slava KPSS, along with branded work for Adidas and Red Bull. He lived and worked in Moscow before relocating to Toronto in 2018.

He's worked as a gaffer and key grip on every kind of set — from one-man-band shoots to tier-A union productions, including projects selected for TIFF and Sundance. That range made him fast and adaptable: the person who finds a solution whatever the budget, crew, or location allows.

As a director of photography he takes his cues from music, 80s cinema, the light and color of Vereshchagin and Roerich, and the ordinary light he notices on the street.
